About Timefo

The Basics

Timefo is short for "time formation." Time is defined as "the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole" and formation as "a structure or arrangement of something". In other words, a timeline.

In its most basic form, Timefo is a web application that allows you to easily create a timeline of just about anything — your life (or your mom's life), details of a specific event (history of computer languages, a wedding, or training for a marathon), or anything else you can imagine.

To see it in action, take a look at the Public Timelines page, or take the Timefo Tour. Also, make sure you check out the Support/FAQ Section for the latest features and issues with Timefo.

But Why a Timeline?

In early 2006 Lucas Rockwell listened to a program on NPR about how some people, when they are in their twilight years, can remember their lives very vividly, while others tend to "lose it" more easily. No one can explain why for sure, but researchers have found that people who live very interesting lives tend to have better memories later in life. Furthermore, people who would plan little, i.e., make an adventure out of everything, had the most vivid memories as they got older.

So, this made Lucas think, "What if someone could put the events of their life on a timeline so that that they could easily see all the things they have done over the course of their life?" So, he set out to make a website that would easily allow people to create timelines.

Special Thanks To...

A very huge thanks goes to Steven Hansen for all his amazing work on Timefo in the early days. If he had not been involved, this project would have never gotten off the ground!

Another huge thanks (although, that is an understatement!) goes to David François Huynh at MIT's SIMILE project, for making the amazing Timeline api on which this entire project is based.

Also, thanks to Mark James of FamFamFam for his fabulous icons!

Oh, and thanks to Mozilla for making the fabulous Firefox web browser.
